ANC 2E, CAG, and the Georgetown BID Announce Town Hall on Small Cells

Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 2E, the Citizens Association of Georgetown (CAG), and the Georgetown Business Improvement District (BID) have announced that they will hold a town hall to discuss the DC Government's current Small Cell Facilities Project. The project, which is being facilitated by the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), the Office of Public-Private Partnerships (OP3), and the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO), aims to promote the installation of wireless communications facilities (“small cells”) by wireless providers on poles throughout DC. These small cells will improve the quality of wireless service throughout the District with faster data coverage and capacity and will facilitate the eventual launch of 5G services.
ANC 2E, CAG, and the Georgetown BID have received several concerns from local residents and businesses about the effects that the proposed small cells will have on the ANC 2E community. These concerns relate to the distribution density, public health effects, construction and maintenance details, design and appearance specifications, and technical and siting standards of the small cells, among other pressing concerns. The town hall will thus provide an opportunity for members of the public to learn more about the project, ask questions, and offer feedback.
The town hall will take place on Thursday, September 13th, 2018 at 7:00 pm at the City Tavern Club, 3206 M Street NW.
During the town hall, DC Government representatives will give a presentation regarding the Small Cell Facilities Project, which will include a an overview of the project's implementation timeline. Ample time will be allotted during the town hall for questions from attendees. Wireless providers will also be in attendance to answer questions.
